Training & Education

The project focuses on the development of high-level study courses and lifelong learning programmes in the fields of microchip design and photonics, providing both theoretical and practical knowledge to students and industry professionals while strengthening Latvia’s competitiveness in the semiconductor market.

Within the framework of the project, the competencies of the academic staff at Riga Technical University (RTU) and the University of Latvia (UL) will be enhanced through international mobility and collaboration with European research centres. In addition, a talent development programme will be created to attract and train young specialists for innovations in microelectronics.

Lifelong Learning

The Latvian Chip Competence Centre (LCCC) is a national initiative that supports Latvia’s integration into the European semiconductor and integrated photonics ecosystem. The centre provides ecosystem stakeholders with opportunities to enhance knowledge, competencies, and skills to accelerate the growth of this sector.

Within the lifelong learning framework, courses and practical workshops will be offered to improve the skills of engineers, technicians, and managers.

Schools and Workshops

The summer schools and workshops organised by the LCCC focus on developing the latest knowledge and practical skills in the fields of microelectronics and semiconductor technologies. They bring together students, researchers, and industry professionals who are given the opportunity to learn about current technologies, design methods, and innovation processes. The programme combines lectures, hands-on laboratory sessions, and teamwork to address real-world industry challenges.

Summer schools and workshops promote collaboration between academia and industry, facilitating knowledge transfer and the development of new ideas. They provide access to modern infrastructure and experienced mentors, creating an inspiring environment for the growth of young talents. These initiatives strengthen local expertise and support the sustainable development of high-technology sectors.

Below you can find summer schools and workshops offered by different competence centres.

Study Programmes at the University of Latvia (UL)

The Bachelor’s and  Physics Master’s study programmes at the University of Latvia (UL) provides in-depth knowledge of modern physics and research methodologies. Students acquire both theoretical foundations and practical skills in fields such as materials physics, optics, solid-state physics, and quantum technologies.

The programme closely integrates studies with scientific research, allowing students to participate in current research projects and laboratory work. Special attention is given to data analysis, modelling, and working with modern scientific equipment.

Experienced researchers and international collaboration partners frequently participate in the study process. Graduates obtain a competitive education that opens career opportunities in science, high-technology industries, and doctoral studies.

Study Programmes at Riga Technical University (RTU)

The study programmes implemented by the Institute of Photonics, Electronics and Telecommunications at Riga Technical University (RTU) aim to develop expertise in photonics, electronics, and telecommunications. These are critical areas of modern technology, encompassing a wide range of applications—from telecommunications infrastructure and electronic devices to advanced photonic systems used in medicine, defence, and computing.
